Trouble in Tahiti & Il Signor Bruschino
Amelia Island Opera proudly presents an unforgettable evening of musical drama and comedic brilliance with a double bill featuring Leonard Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti and Gioachino Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino. Step into the smoky suburbs of 1950s America with Bernstein’s Trouble in Tahiti — a jazz-infused, one-act opera that explores the emotional distance in a picture-perfect marriage. Featuring AIO Co-Founder, Executive Director and Soprano, Victoria Isernia as Dinah, this intimate and poignant work captures the disillusionment and longing that lurk beneath domestic bliss. The sleek, satirical Trio — a running commentary on American consumer culture — will be performed by three exciting voices making their Amelia Island Opera debuts: Brooklyn Snow, Matthew Greenblatt, and Fran Daniel Laucerica. Then, get ready for mistaken identities, clever schemes, and laugh-out-loud antics in Rossini’s Il Signor Bruschino. This high-spirited Italian farce is full of youthful energy, sparkling melodies, and comic twists — a perfect counterbalance to Bernstein’s moody realism. Taking on the title role is AIO Artistic Director and Baritone John Tibbetts who is joined by Brooklyn Snow known for her “vocal athleticism” and “theatrical smarts” as Sofia, “Sweetly Shining Tenor” Fran Daniel Laucerica as Florville, Matthew Greenblatt as Bruschino Jr., Andre Chiang as Filiberto, Olivia Yokers as Marianna, and Dylan Elza as The Police Commissioner. This double bill will be woven together under the direction of acclaimed opera director, Scott Skiba and the orchestra will be led by returning company favorite, Maestro Keith Chambers. From the smoky lounges of suburban America to the zany salons of Italy, this dynamic double bill offers an evening of contrasting styles, rich storytelling, and unforgettable performances.
